Teaching tips

Common Core 5.G.A.1 defines the coordinate system with the x-axis, y-axis and origin, and 5.G.A.2 asks students to graph points in the first quadrant and interpret coordinate values.
Across first, then up: “Walk along the hall, then take the stairs.”
Point out that (2, 5) and (5, 2) are different places.
